Statistics

Whilst many cancers can be cured, sadly this is not always the case. There are approximately 1000 deaths from cancer in North Cumbria each year.

Anonymised cancer death statistics provide us with one measure of palliative care workload in our area. This measure gives us helpful information but does have some limitations: it concentrates on terminal care, and does not include any information about non-cancer palliative care.

The tables and graphs in this section give cancer death information for North Cumbria between 1998 and 2004. For each year, the number of cancer deaths is given, plus the number (and percentage) of cancer deaths by place of death, in one of the following categories:
